Chinese

Since I started learning Chinese I've collected quite a collection of books on the subject. These include textbooks, dictionaries, books on grammar, calligraphy, culture, history and a couple of novels (although it's still rather challenging to read those). Some I bought on-line, but a lot of them I bought in Taiwan and China where books are dead cheap. Here are two of my favorites.

De Chinese Guido Gezelle heet Li Bai (李白), een gevierde poëet uit de Tang dynastie. Vorige week heb ik me hier in een tweedehands boekenwinkeltje een boek aangeschaft met 300 gedichten uit die periode. Vandaag trok ik gewapend met schrift, potlood, drie woordenboeken en veel geduld naar een theehuis om mijn eerste vertaling te maken van een klassiek Chinees gedicht. Ik sloeg het boek op een willekeurige plaats open, en begon mijn ontdekkingstocht naar de betekenis van een gedicht dat meer dan 1200 jaar geleden geschreven werd.

There are a lot of great websites and [tag]free software[/tag] apps to assist in studying the [tag]Chinese[/tag] [tag]language[/tag]. Just today on Chinese-Forums I discovered ZDT, and I'm already hooked. I had been thinking about starting an open source flashcard application in PHP, but now there's really no need for that any more.
